国民が選挙を通して自分たちの代表者を選び、政治が行われる。

官僚主導から政治主導へ

日本では従来、官僚による政策への影響力が強かった。
官僚は選挙で選ばれていないため、国民の発言による影響は限られている。

そこで、政治主導の実現のため、民主党政権から自民党政権に戻った際、2012年に内閣事務局が設置された。内閣が国家公務員の人事を最終的に掌握する。

民主主義において、政府の支出を決定する者は選挙で決定される。国民からの影響力は間接的であり限られている。

メディアは国民に代わって政府の支出の説明責任を求めたりする機能を担う。

I think that public does not have enough say about how government money is spent.
I have two reasons to support my opinion.

Firstly, 70% of the world's population live in non-democratic, authoritarian countries.
In those countries, money is being spent on things that do not seem to be the consensus of the people,
such as Russia's invasion of Ukraine and missile launches in North Korea.
In China and Russia, the Internet is also restricted, and opinions on politics through social media are not allowed or monitored.

Secondly, Japan is one of the most democratic countries in the world.
However even in Japan, public influence on politics is limited.
For example, bureaucrats have a strong influence on policy while they are not elected by the people.
Also, political participation through elections is indirect, and has limited influence.
In fact, the decision has been made to increase defense spending within five years of 2022, which does not appear to be the consensus of the public.
This led to distrust of politics, and low voter turnout, especially among the younger generation.
Which means that public has even less influence on politics.

In conclusion, I am of the opinion that public does not have enough say about how government money is spent.
