民主主義は「もっともまし」

一人の優秀なリーダーが国民のために統治することは理想ではあるが、歴史を振り返ると、自分のための支配に陥る危険性が高い。
民主主義は理想ではないが「もっともまし」と言える。

国民が選挙を通して代表者を選び、政治が行われる。

I think that democracy is the best possible system of government.
I have two reasons to support my opinion.

Firstly, while it is ideal to have one good leader ruling for the people, history shows that there is a high risk of falling into a kind of dictatorship.
North Korea, which has been repeatedly testing missile launches, and Russia, which invaded Ukraine, are recent examples.
Even when such a dictator emerges, in a democracy, the term of office is decided, and a change of government is possible without waiting for a revolution.

Secondly, in a democracy, it is easy for the people to participate in politics.
For example, the Internet and social media can be used for citizens to express their opinions about politics.
Therefore the Internet is a threat to authoritarian countries.
In China and Russia, the use of the Internet is strictly regulated, and opinions on politics through social media are not allowed or monitored.
Better policies are possible only when more people from diverse backgrounds participate.
This requires guaranteeing freedom of speech, which is one of the basic ideas of democracy.

In conclusion, while democracy is not ideal, it is the best possible system of government.
